"Mary's Reiki sessions have created great healing for me. I always leave with a sense of peace and a better understanding of myself. She has a gift in facilitating the alignment of the energy fields back into a state of balance. I am eternally grateful for Mary's work and the serene quality she has added to my life."
What is Reiki?
“Reiki” is a Japanese word, which roughly translates as “Universal life energy”. Reiki is commonly administered as a deeply relaxing healing technique. It is designed to shift the body from "fight or flight" to "rest and digest" by activating the parasympathetic nervous system. "Rest and digest" is the sweet spot where our bodies need to be in order to heal itself! The aim of Reiki is to switch into this deeply relaxing state to cultivate physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.
This form of energy work may be used to supplement healing and recovery from various injuries, surgeries and ailments.
Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive healing modality which does not require physical contact. This can be especially beneficial to those with sensitivities or who prefer not to be touched. I often work with survivors of trauma who find this especially supportive of their boundaries. I'm a survivor/thriver, myself! I also understand that it can take time to feel comfortable and I am committed to supporting each of my clients individual preferences. This is also an added benefit to long-distance clients or those who may not have the ability to travel. If contact is preferred, a feather-light touch is administered without manipulating the muscles, tissues or bones. The head may also be cradled gently while offering Reiki.
The hands are used as “energy antennae”, to sense the energetic body of the client and to offer healing energy to each of the main body systems (or "chakras"). This includes and is not limited to the digestive organs, lungs, heart, thyroid, eyes, ears and brain. The energy of Reiki (subtle energetic vibration) is directed to each area of the physical body and each layer of the subtle body. This is meant to encourage optimal balance of the body, mind and spirit.
Physical, emotional and spiritual concerns may be addressed during a Reiki session.
Reiki is a spiritual practice which supports those of varied beliefs, faiths and religious beliefs. The laying on of hands is mentioned in the Bible as a healing practice that Jesus mastered and was able to share with many people. It is my sincere belief that Reiki is something that connects us all. I offer a short prayer for the highest good of all and state that we will only accept purely positive healing energy at the beginning and end of each session.
What to expect
First, please seek professional medical attention and speak with your doctor about any medical concerns prior to receiving a Reiki treatment.
It's true that Reiki is amazing... and
I am not a qualified medical professional. I do not diagnose, prescribe or treat injuries. Reiki is a relaxation technique used to activate your body's parasympathetic nervous system, which allows your body to heal itself more efficiently.
Due to COVID-19, I am working remotely via Zoom with exceptions on a case-by-case basis. These sessions are considered "remote" and can be accessed from anywhere in the world. Because Reiki energy is not limited by space and time we are able to "send" it through connecting with the energy of the client (human or animal). The aim of each session is to balance the energy of the mind, body and spirit. You may purchase a session for yourself or as a gift, however consent of the recipient is required.
Each and every Reiki session is unique. Chronic issues may require multiple Reiki sessions to see lasting results. Other issues may find instant relief. I am not able to guarantee any specific results for each of my clients.
Our first session together will begin with a personalized consultation and introduction. The initial consultation will likely be more thorough than subsequent sessions. We will build a framework of knowledge around where you're coming from and what you are hoping to gain from our work together.
We will discuss your goals for treatment, any health concerns as well as past injuries/surgeries, etc.
I will ask for a history of your mental, emotional and physical health, all of which is completely optional. It is not necessary for you to share anything and please feel free to share whatever you feel is important for me to know. We will create a personalized plan for your treatment based on your needs and goals.
After discussing your history and goals, I offer a Reiki energy balancing treatment while simultaneously "reading"/sensing each of your chakras individually. This may be presented in one of a few different ways depending on your needs, preferences and proximity.
We will discuss anything that is intuitively or physically sensed over each of your chakras during our session. Clients often express this is their biggest "take away" from our session(s). These messages and/or channeled readings are not in any way meant to diagnose, prescribe nor treat any conditions. Rather this insight is offered as an added layer of depth of self-knowlege and empowerment.
To conclude our session I may offer simple chakra-balancing techniques as "homework", this is also optional. I am available via email to answer questions or to clarify anything discussed during our sessions.
A proper face mask (covering the nose and mouth) is required throughout all in-person Reiki sessions. Wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing may help you to relax more deeply. Please wear socks, as I often place my hands on the bottoms of the feet, although I may also hover over that position as a modification for bare feet. During your session, you may fall into a deep meditation-like state. Some clients fall asleep, which is okay, and even encouraged!
It is helpful to remain well-hydrated at all times, especially after an energy session. Energy moves in waves of vibration, which is carried in large part by the water content of the body. Remaining hydrated helps to cleanse the physical, emotional and spiritual bodies.
You may or may not feel physical sensations from Reiki energy moving throughout the body. Deep breaths allow the body to absorb this energy more deeply. That said, there is no need to fixate on or manipulate the breath during your session.
As a practitioner I have witnessed substantial healing before my (and my client's) very eyes. It has worked well personally as a self-proclaimed accident-prone individual... tripping down the stairs with boiling soup (down my whole left leg), smashing my hand in car doors, stubbed toes, twisted ankles... you get the picture, none of which resulted in any physical evidence of said injuries. I hope for similar results for each of my clients and of course there are no guarantees. The results that I have seen time and again over the past 6 years is what keeps me coming back to the practice of Reiki.
I am grateful for this practice and look forward to sharing it with you. Please contact me with any questions!
